Review Turbo

Actually there was no intention to watch this movie. Just because I wanted to spent the time, finally me, my sister and lil cousin watched this movie.

"Turbo" is about Theo (Ryan Reynolds), a garden snail obsessed about car racing and being fast. He accidentally ingests nitrous oxide and develops amazing powers race car. A luckless taco shop owner Tito (Michael Pena) Theo picks up for his hobby of racing snails, and discovers speedy Theo's incredible abilities. Eventually, Theo (now re-named Turbo) actually qualifies to race against his racing idol, the five-time champion Guy Gagne (Bill Hader), in the Indianapolis 500. Can this phenomenal little snail now finally fulfill his dream of winning a big league car race?

Surprisingly, 'Turbo' is above what I expected it would be. The theme of a snail who joins racing car is really silly I thought but they could cover it with strong background and solid animation which is common from DreamWorks Animation although it's quite predictable near end of the movie.

Turbo is never destined to be the best. As long as it's as humble as its scale and as its main character, it's all good. It's kind of hard to get over the lack of originality unless you're honestly entertained throughout the experience. The real point of the movie is to present how ridiculous the world they made where it mocks on whatever nature and today's society do, yet scatter some thematically endearing subplots.

There are some instances where I laughed very hard at Ken Jeong's performance as the old nail dresser. The performances shine sometimes as Reynolds and Jackson do good.

Kids will surely enjoy this cute little movie delightful. Adults will just have to summon their inner child out in order to enjoy it with them.
