Went to the cinema last night with my friends, we were supposed to watch The Hobbit : The Desolation of Smug but one of my friend says it's gonna be boring movie so we decided to watch 47 Ronin.

From ancient Japan's most enduring tale, the epic 3D fantasy-adventure 47 Ronin is born. Keanu Reeves leads the cast as Kai, an outcast who joins Oishi (Hiroyuki Sanada), the leader of 47 outcast samurai. Together they seek vengeance upon the treacherous overlord who killed their master and banished their kind. To restore honor to their homeland, the warriors embark upon a quest that challenges them with a series of trials that would destroy ordinary warriors.

The acting was fine all round, but the women stole the show. Kudos to Ko Shibasaki (Mika) for really making a passive aggressive statement and Rinko Kikuchi (Witch) for chewing scenery! Actually I felt like Keanu Reeves played more of a support role. The Japanese hero, Oishi, played the lead role. The scene where all the Ronin committing seppuku was also very emotional along with the score to add a nice touch to the movie's atmosphere and further amplifies the message and feeling that it was trying to convey.

The problems are forcing all the Japanese to speak in English also seems to be a huge problem for me as I find myself hard to immerse into the movie as all the dialog felt out-of-place. I think that the casts did the best they could for the movie, but nevertheless, the language of choice for the movie certainly plays an important factor in ruining it for me. I would've much preferred it in Japanese. The movie tries too hard to appeal to the mass audience and put in too many unnecessary CGI that ultimately ruin the whole movie for me. I guess therefore scriptwriters did not put much attention into dialogues, which are clearly left out and have plain content. I do agree that it is the culture and time that are portrayed, which are strict and clear, but even then dialogues must at least be presented in nobel way, so that the viewer will be able to admire them by interpreting those dialogues, trying to imagine that time. I found the first part quite slow because of necessary exposition, but it picks up 1/3rd into the movie.

Well, the new animated fantasy movie "Frozen" has gotten some great reviews and been doing excellent box-office, so I decided to check it out with my friend.

There lived two sister Princesses of Arendelle: Elsa (Idina Menzel) and Anna (Kristen Bell). Ever since she was born, Elsa has had the power to create ice and snow. It's a beautiful power, but at the same time, it can also be extremely dangerous. Emotionally stricken from the day her powers were nearly killed Anna, she has promised her parents to stay away from society, the world, and most of all, her family and Anna, so she wouldn't harm anyone again. It's a terrible curse to live with and it changed her character throughout the years. On the day she was crowned as Queen of Arendelle, she accidentally revealed her powers to the world due to pressures of her coronation and the immediate engagement of Anna and Prince Hans of the Southern Isles (Santino Fontana), whom she just met! Elsa also accidentally trapped the entire kingdom in eternal winter. It's now up to Anna and new friends to bring Elsa back home and set things right before it's too late.

Anna is a likable heroine with her fearless quality and will do anything to help her sister, Elsa. Elsa almost looks like a Disney villain, but her back-story and the way she is seen as a monster due to her ice powers made me felt sorry for her. Kristoff is an endearing second main character and helps Anna in the rest of the movie. Olaf and the reindeer are no doubt great comic relief characters. Their humorous moments make them scene-stealers. Hans looks like a prince charming at first, but as a villain, his motives explains the reason why he's evil and he's very convincing.

Kristen Bell, who voices Anna and who I've never heard sing before, does a great job keeping up with Broadway star Idina Menzel, who voices Anna's snow queen sister, Elsa. The highlight of the film is Idina Menzel singing the song 'Let It Go'. The emotion and her voice sends shivers down your spine and the scene while she sings it is just absolutely gorgeous to look at. The Demi Lovato version, which plays over the credits, is also very good, but not as good as Idina Menzel.Josh Gad, who voices Olaf The Snowman, does a great job playing the comedic sidekick character. Olaf adds to a long list of fantastic Disney characters that make you laugh. He does a hilarious musical number about a snowman who wants to take part in summer.

Fantastic music, humour and animation makes the wheels turn for this fantastic joy ride. Kids will adore the colours and characters that are brought before them, and adults will enjoy the humour and the music that they may remember from older Disney films. 'Frozen' is your typical Disney story about true love, but it's a different kind of true love that made me feel even more touched than a typical Disney love story. The bond between siblings is something most of us can relate to, and throughout the film, you feel the bond between these two sisters. Take your children for a day/night out and go see this film. I guarantee the whole family will love it. Also, try to show up for the short film 'Get A Horse', which is a short film staring Mickey and Minnie Mouse. The short film brings back the old school Mickey shorts and gives a modern look to them. It's something you don't want to miss.
