Review The Mortal Instruments : City Of Bones
00:23"City of Bones" is the first in a book series which I haven't read so I can't compare the movie to the book. It's ...
The story is your usual young adult novel world. It evolves around a girl, a couple boys fighting for her love, and of course supernatural beings. Clary (Lily Collins) is pretty much your typical teenage girl. Her mother Jocelyn (Lena Headley) is always trying to protect her like a good mother, but she is also hiding something from her as well. Clary can see things that regular people cannot, and not in the "I am crazy" way. Clary finds out that she is a shadowhunter, or someone who fights demons. She can't remember everything, because someone cast a spell on her to help block her memories. Clary meets Jace (Jamie Campbell Bower) who is also a shadowhunter as well, and who help explain to her as well as the audience the world she is entering. Together, they must stop the mortal cup from falling into the wrong hands. Yep, there's a mortal cup.
Lily Collins is a beautiful site to look at and also a standout performer. Quickly taking the title of Hollywood's new "it" girl, she does the movie justice with her abilities. She really rocked her role in this movie and any of her fans will not be disappointed. Jamie Campbell Bower plays Jace Wayland, the best Shadowhunter of his age. Bower does a wonderful job of capturing Jace's vulnerability and is brilliant at delivering the type of attitude needed for this character. Robert Sheehan works brilliantly beside Collins and Bower and brings an outstanding Simon Lewis to the big screen. Simon is Clary's best friend and feels extremely threatened by Jace's sudden presence in Clary's life. His comedic delivery is spot on and he is simply brilliant. Kevin Zegers, Jemima West, Lena Headey and Aidan Turner all show great strength in their abilities in their respective roles.
Soundtrack is a charm: Zedd's ''Into The Lair'' could have sounded cheap, but the scene it plays is directed so well, it seems perfect. Demi Lovato's can be judged as a audience-grabber, but it echoes during the movie as the love theme Lana Del Rey's ''Young and Beautiful'' came up to be in 2013's The Great Gatsby. Colbie Caillat's ''When The Darkness Comes'' is, though, the OST's least song, but it feels greater in the movie.
The story had good pacing, nicely put-together shots, a complete story, and a nice ending. I like the twist in the end of the movie that they were brother and sister. But tbh I'm not really sure they are siblings.
Overall this movie is very nice and I'm looking forward to see the other parts to know what is going to happen with the storyline! I also hope that the storyline continues more on the action and less on the love story, it makes it look like a cheap Twilight like love triangle...
