Instagram Controversy

After many complaints and negative responses from Instagram users about Instagram "tried" sell their photos, finally Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom told users: "It is not our intention to sell your photos."

He said that Instagram would re-write the terms to clarify how pictures might be used. "The language we proposed also raised question about whether your photos can be part of an advertisement," Systrom wrote. "We do not have plans for anything like this and because of that we’re going to remove the language that raised the question."

Instagram's new terms of service, which go into effect on January 16th, clearly state that your photographs and associated information (like location data) can be promoted by companies without anyone notifying you about the transaction. Clearly, the situation has been agitated over the past few days, with some users deleting their accounts entirely. What does Instagram have in mind as far as turning its unit into a real part of Facebook’s business?

People are imagining that their pictures might end up being used as a commercial, clearly that bother the users. But actually we do not need to be careless and immediately close our account. Do not be too confident that Instagram will use your pictures. If they use your pictures, of course they only use the interesting/popular photos, not your ugly pictures. Just wait and see what will happen with this issue.
