Let's face it, the DCEU has had some iffy moments so far. Some great things have been in their movies but the overall movies have been disjointed, unsatisfying or leave the audiences wishing for more of the things that worked and less of the things that didn't. Wonder Woman turned the tide and now Justice league has shown that there is no future there.

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman's selfless act, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince (Gal Gadot), to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes-Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and The Flash (Ezra Miller)-it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

If Wonder Woman provided a glimmer of hope that DC Comics movies might start looking, moving and sounding differently than before, Justice League plops us right back into Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice territory, albeit with a little more wit and humanity.

Suffering a troubled production that saw original director Zack Snyder depart the project late in the piece due to a family tragedy and replaced by Avenger's mastermind Joss Whedon, Justice League has had a far from smooth run to cinemas, that includes the fact we've never truly been properly introduced to its new main players, Aquaman, The Flash and Cyborg, with DC keen to get this ensemble together as quickly as possible.

Considering all of this, Justice League is not what I'd call a "bad" movie, in the sense that I'd warn everyone against seeing it, but this often jumbled and sometimes just not that interesting blockbuster is still far from the all-around winner DC would've been hoping for with Snyder and Whedon's film lacking both a genuinely good story arc (new villain Steppenwolf is just generic baddie 101 or even worse) and any true memorable set-pieces or set-ups. Some of the action\fight scenes look completely not dynamic. They are boring and you don't empathize with the protagonist.

Affleck spreads a pall of dullness over the film. He doesn’t have the implacable, steely ferocity and conviction that Christian Bale had; he seems to have a faint sheen of sweat as if the Batcave thermostat is up too high, and his attempts at droll humor and older-generation wisdom make his Batman look stately and marginal. Henry Cavill is still a poor choice for Superman, I don't know if he over or under acts, but his performance doesn't feel like Kal-El is trying to blend into society, while Gal Gadot is once again great as Wonder Woman. Of the new cast, Miller is a fine addition as the awkward Allen, Jason Momoa gives fans hope that his standalone Aquaman will be a lot of fun, while it's surprising just how affecting Ray Fisher is as Cyborg even if his character doesn't seem cut out to get his own standalone feature.

It was September 18, Monday, Tree's birthday. That day, a hungover Tree Gelbman (Jessica Rothe) woke up in the dorm room of nerdy boy Carter (Israel Broussard). Later that night, she was attacked and murdered by a killer wearing a baby mask of their college mascot. Then she woke up again in Carter's room and relived the same day over only to die again at the hands of the same masked murderer. With each loop she goes through, Tree eliminates her suspects one by one until she thought she's got it all figured out.

Jessica Rothe as Tree Gelbman and Israel Broussard as Carter Davis are fantastic as the two leads. They have excellent chemistry and make us root for them. The likability of this whole film depended on the winsome portrayal of Tree by Jessica Rothe. There was something very charming about her mean girl whose cursed repeated reliving of her birthday (and death day) had humbled her down. Her bitchy Tree was played with tongue fully in cheek. With every day relived, she managed to project a different personality that kept the proceedings interesting. But in that sequence of her penultimate reincarnation, she was positively radiant.

Happy Death Day works best when it's conscious of its very own absurdity, when its unfortunate protagonist herself becomes so accustomed to dying, and when it's aware of its own limitations. It is adamantly a slasher flick, but one that upends its genre’s conventions by literally grounding its pleasures on the pains of repetition.

Christopher Landon’s Happy Death Day is a murder mystery by way of the same conceit used by films like Harold Ramis’ Groundhog Day (1993), Duncan Jones’ Source Code (2011) and Doug Liman’s Edge of Tomorrow (2014). The film is helped by the fact that the conceit has been used so many times, it has become open to satire and parody.

Happy Death Day is one of the more fun slasher films I have seen in a long time. It's a movie that will appeal to many with its fun pace, decent comedy, intriguing mystery, and character that keeps you invested in their life.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is nearly a year-old and there’s still more to come. Work is already underway on the film’s sequel, and Fantastic Beasts 2 just dropped a major teaser for its connection to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.

Over on Facebook, fans who follow the official Fantastic Beasts page were gifted a surprise. The account posted a photo of a leather-bound case adorned with a simple lock. The lock itself can be seen baring some initials, and the letters “NF” should be a big cue for any fan. After all, it is not every day that Harry Potter gurus are teased about Nicholas Flamel, a famous alchemist-slash-wizard who created the Sorcerer’s Stone.

“The only known maker of the Philosopher’s Stone. What other mysteries may be locked away,” the photo’s caption read as it teased Fantastic Beasts 2.

Fans have known for awhile now that Fantastic Beasts 2 will feature Flamel. Recently, news broke that Brontis Jodorowsky was cast in the role, but fans know little else about the wizard’s involvement. The series has said before that Dumbledore and Flamel were close friends, so the Harry Potter legend may appear to help his friend track down Gellert Grindelwald when he inevitably escapes his American jailers.

However, the Fantastic Beasts 2 teaser does have fans wondering if Flamel’s role in the sequel will be larger than expected. The caption appears to tease that the wizard may be hiding something else just as powerful as the Sorcerer’s Stone, and that could mean danger for the wizarding world. During the film’s time, Flamel will still have the stone in-hand as he only hides it at Gringotts in 1991, so Grindelwald could go after the man for the Sorcerer’s Stone.

The sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them opens in theaters on November 16, 2018.

Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what's left of society into chaos. K's discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.

Much like the original, Blade Runner 2049 questions what makes us human, and why in the future we would attempt to differentiate ourselves from our creation, when they begin to adopt our traits. Though Gosling's K appears robotic in his movements at times, in his relationships, especially that with virtual intelligence Joi, we witness how human he truly is, their romance been as inventive as it is beautiful. The film takes itself very seriously when demonstrating the poignancy of machines sharing a connection, though the themes of slavery and child-labour, despite still been major topics today, are only briefly discussed.

This is not a happy film, let's get that straight. It is a dark, mysterious, grim, hopeless, sad and lonely film, set in a possible near future where the human race is hanging by their fingertips on the edge of doom. It is such a sad film, it's actually quite difficult to watch, but i went back and did it anyways.

BR2049 has some of the most gorgeous visuals i have ever seen. And there is literally no excuse to not give Roger Deakins the Oscar for best cinematography this time. This year he just knocked it out of the park, and is in his own league entirely. He has been nominated for 13 Oscars so far in his career.

After seeing the original film, I remembering wondering what the world outside of the dark LA nights in 2019 would be like? And that is just one of the ways 2049 has expanded that notion, leaving an open door to an even bigger world with deeper questions beyond it. Yes it is a long and relatively slow paced movie (by design), and so was 'Once Upon a Time in the West'. And yet just like that movie as well as the original Bladerunner, over time, this too will get more and more appreciation with age (and wisdom) for those who truly appreciate the art of film-making. It's not perfect, no movie ever will ever to everybody will it? But it is an amazing achievement and I look forward to my next viewing with different eyes, taking in what I may have missed because there is so much to see and overlook.
